Introduction to WSCFThe World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) is a global fellowship of Christian students in over 100 countries. We organise conferences, training events and solidarity activities. Europe is one of the Federation's six regions, with 23 national Student Christian Movements (SCMs) in 18 countries. There are two subregional structures within Europe at the moment: the Central European Sub-region (CESR) and the Nordic Cooperation Council. Since our founding in 1895, the Federation has grown and now has over hundred member movements world-wide. WSCF is a pioneer in the ecumenical movement and played a key role in the formation of the World Council of Churches in 1948. We continue to take an active role in ecumenism today. We believe that faith and social justice cannot be separated. As Christians, we must be ready to be engaged in theological, political, and social issues. WSCF is a space for discussion and the sharing of ideas from different perspectives as young Christian students in an open-minded way. We strive towards unity in diversity across the boundaries of denomination, nation, culture, and gender. WSCF aims to provide a forum of Christian witness and ecumenical dialogue for students. We have four working groups that focus on: theological, solidarity, gender, and cultural and higher education issues. WSCF-Europe offers
Community Events Publications Lingua Franca ProjectHow do we face the challenge of the confusion of Babel? By organising summer language courses in Central and Eastern Europe. Voluntary teachers from all over Europe (and beyond) teach local students a widely used language (English, German, Spanish and French). Both during and after the course this serves as a means of understanding, and cultural and ecumenical exchange. |
